Two Medals at the World Kickboxing Championship for GMS Pupil

Congratulations to Adam Bonwick, Year 12, who won two world titles in the space of three days at the World Kickboxing Championships in Greece in October.

Adam, who is part of the England squad and trains with the De Silva Taekwon-Do Association in Ealing West London, won an individual gold medal representing England in Crete: just 72 hours later he helped the boys’ team to victory defeating Germany in the final.

Along with his instructor, Johan De Silva, Adam was selected to be part of the WKU England Kickboxing team after an impressive few months prior to the competition in Greece. Head coach master, Ted Wolf, invited Adam to train with the team after he won a silver medal at the ITF World Championships in August.

Adam entered three events at the World Championships: Light Continuous Sparring; Points Sparring and the ITF Tuls Division.

He won the boys’ under 65kg Light Continuous Sparring, defeating the reigning champion to win his first world title. in addition, he was awarded silver in the Points Sparring Division.

GMS wishes Adam much success in all future competitions. Mr Nash, Acting Headteacher commented on Adam’s achievements: “Adam has combined his training schedule with an exceptional commitment to his learning for many years. He achieved one of the best sets of GCSE results in Year 11 last year and is now studying towards 4 AS Levels in English, History, PE and Ancient History. There is no doubt that his dedication to his sport has forced him to become a more organised and focused student.”
