Maidenhead Regatta

Seven GMSBC crews competed at Maidenhead over the weekend. It is a charming local regatta. All crews had at least two races and performed well.

The star performance was the Year 9 Girls’ top boat, which won three rounds to meet Guildford in the final. A close race with Guildford ensued. GMS girls were not daunted by an early, half a length lead by their opponents; they showed true grit and determination, stayed in the race the whole way and even came back at their opposition in the closing metres.

The two Year 9 Boys’ Crews had a straight final in A Quads. Theirs was a very close race, with somewhat aggressive, if not erratic, coxing. They were the winners by 1 length. The boys were probably more fired up to race their team mates than for usual races.

Our Year 10 boys had a fairly trouble free run through the early rounds. In their fourth and final race they met Guildford. This was not a repeat of the Year 9 girls race. The boys moved out in front from the off and kept moving away to win by a comfortable margin. Photo of winning crew attached minus their cox Chiara.
