Inspired By Design

On Monday 23rd November the Design and Technology Department took their Year 12 and Year 13 Product Design students to the annual ‘Inspired By Design’ seminars hosted by the Institute of Education, London. Students enjoyed talks relating to careers paths within design and technology, turning designs into marketable products, and inspiring stories from the world of design. Amongst the speakers were the Chief Designer from Land Rover Jaguar, and Jay Osgerby from the Barber & Osgerby studio, which claims amongst its projects the winning design for the 2012 London summer Olympics.

Students agreed that they all had discovered something new about the world of design, and in particular how design contextualises itself within the world around us. A valuable insight was gained by students, who all have life changing decisions ahead of them, and who are now a little more aware of some of the options available.

We look forward to seeing some of the influence of this rewarding trip in the work that the students produce for their Product Design course.
