Pic ‘N’ Mix: A Great Summer Success at GMS

Published 9 July, 2025

Mr Ross writes about the latest, hugely successful, Drama Department production.

‘This year’s summer production, Pic ‘N’ Mix, was yet another resounding success for the Drama Department at Great Marlow School. What made this achievement even more remarkable was the limited rehearsal time, due to circumstances beyond the department’s control. Despite this challenge, the students rose to the occasion with incredible dedication and professionalism.

The production showcased not only the talent we’ve come to expect but also unearthed some exciting new performers who we hope to see in many future shows.

In addition to performance skills, our students have gained a valuable life experience and forged lasting friendships.

Behind the scenes, the lighting and sound were, as always, of a very high standard. It was particularly pleasing to see younger students stepping up to learn these essential technical roles, ensuring that this vital part of our productions continues to thrive.

Equally important was our fantastic Front of House team. It was heartening to see brand-new students enthusiastically taking on this responsibility and contributing to the smooth running of the evening.

I’d like to take this opportunity to bid a fond farewell to our Year 10 actors, many of whom have been performing with us since Year 7. They have been a consistent highlight of our productions and will be greatly missed. As always, our policy is that Year 11 focuses on GCSEs, and we do not want the commitment of a production to detract students in an important academic year.

A huge thank you must go to our excellent audiences and to the parents and carers of our cast, whose support and commitment make productions like Pic ‘N’ Mix possible.

We’ll soon be announcing our Christmas production, which promises to be another exciting chapter in the school’s rich tradition of drama.

GMS is incredibly proud of the team, who worked hard and dedicatedly to bring about the performances in the professional way they did. Also, to Mr Ross for heading the enterprise and for writing this article for the website.
