Student Prefects

A prefect is one of the top roles a student can have at GMS. Prefects work with staff to create a better place to learn. A mature, helpful prefect is sure to be trusted.

Year 11 Prefects 2024-2025

Year 11 prefects are important ambassadors for the school and act as role models. They are student leaders and, in that capacity, work with both staff and students to help ensure the smooth running of the school. They help to promote a respectful working environment and positive image of Great Marlow School. Students who apply to be prefects are respected for the way they present themselves, their hard work and commitment. They work closely with the Sixth Form Head Prefects, Sixth Form Deputy Prefects and the Sixth Form Prefect Team.

How many Year 11 prefects are there?

There are currently over 60 Year 11 prefects at Great Marlow School. Every year, all Year 10s are invited to apply for a prefect position. They have to respond to the advert, submit a CV and letter of application. These are reviewed alongside teacher and tutor nominations before a final decision is made.

What is the role of a Year 11 prefect?

The role of school prefect is an important one. Students who undertake this role benefit from the leadership experience it provides. They learn the importance of taking on responsibilities within the school. As importantly, prefects develop their skills in communication, by interacting effectively with members of staff and their peers.

What are the responsibilities of a Year 11 prefect?

As Year 11 prefects are ambassadors for the school and act as role models their responsibilities include:

– carrying out break and lunch time duties in order to encourage other students to look after their environment, not to drop litter and to behave in a respectful and responsible manner

– contributing to the wider school community and extended learning by becoming involved in after school activities and by acting as ambassadors at school events throughout the year

– playing a lead role in Open Evening by conducting tours around the school and interacting with the visitors in a mature manner

– helping with the transition of Year 7 students into the school by supporting form groups and acting as role models to the new intake

Sixth Form Student Prefect Team 2024-2025

The two Head Prefects, their deputies and the senior prefect team lead by example. They are prominent in and around the school, interacting with KS3 and KS4 in their specialist area of responsibility, which could be running a club or fundraising. Their positive impact inspires and serves our GMS community.

Who are our Head Prefects and their Deputies?

Our Head Prefects are Ansty van Romburgh and Arran Bligh
Our Deputy Head Prefects are Tilly Hanson, Charlotte Haddock, Theo Papaioannou and Oliver Braid.
We congratulate them all on these prestigious roles.

What is the role of Head Prefect and their Deputies?

The Head Prefects and their deputies are role models and ambassadors. They ensure that there is excellent communication between staff and students.
Sixth Formers apply for these prestigious positions towards the end of Year 12, in preparation for fulfilling these roles in Year 13.

What are the roles of the Senior Prefect Team?

The Senior Prefect Team works closely with the Head Prefects and their deputies. This team is an integral part of GMS, by helping to organise and run whole school events like Open Day and Open Evenings. Importantly, they represent the ‘Sixth Form Voice’ by making sure the views, opinions and concerns of their peers is heard and addressed. Many are involved in mentoring younger students and liaising with primary schools.
The names of the Senior Prefect Team and their responsibilities are on display in the Sixth Form Centre. The positions are held in the first two terms of Year 13 only, so that students can focus on study for their public examinations.
Their position is prestigious and is high in profile within the school and the wider community.
