Our school uniform is part of our identity and all students are expected to adhere to the school uniform policy.

Suppliers
Some items are widely available in high street shops and other retail outlets.
There are two local suppliers of Great Marlow School branded uniform:
- Hawkinsport in Bourne End
- Sportscrest in High Wycombe
Financial assistance may be available for help with uniform costs for children in receipt of free school meals. Further details are available from the school.

Details of Great Marlow School’s Uniform
- SKIRT – black, twin inverted pleats front and back, side zipper pocket and school crest
embroidered below the waistband. (It is available in two lengths.) OR - TROUSERS – plain black, school-style trousers only (not leggings, kick flares, or jeans).
These should be smart, tailored trousers suitable for a school environment.
SHIRT– plain white. (Shirts should be tucked in at all times; top buttons should be done up;
and garments worn under them should not be visible.)
TIE– school crested, in the House colour of the student.
JUMPER – plain black ‘V’ neck long sleeve, is optional. Cardigans are not allowed.
Sweatshirts and hooded tops are not to be worn under, or over, blazers in school.
SOCKS – must be plain in colour.
TIGHTS – should be natural or black in colour.
SHOES – plain black leather shoes. The following are not allowed: trainers or trainer-style
shoes, stiletto heels, open-toed sandals, backless shoes or crocs.
BLAZER– black with the school badge on the breast pocket.
BELT – black, in a simple, plain style.
COAT– during the winter students should have an appropriate coat to wear.
HATS – a hat for warmth in winter, or for sun protection in summer, is permitted, but they
must not be worn indoors.
HAIR
Our hair policy respects cultural and religious diversity while ensuring standards are appropriate for a school setting.
HAIR COLOURS – black, brown, blonde, auburn/ red tones are the colours of natural hair; only natural looking dyed hair in these colours is acceptable.
HAIR STYLES – all hairstyles should be neat and well-maintained. This includes locs, braids, cornrows, afros, twists and other protective styles.
CULTURAL AND RELIGIOUS CONSIDERATIONS – GMS recognises that some hairstyles have cultural or religious significance. If you believe your child’s hairstyle may be questioned but has cultural or religious importance, please contact your child’s Director of Learning before the hairstyle is adopted. The school will always work with families to find a solution that respects both our policy and your family’s needs.

Jewellery
Students are responsible for the security of their own jewellery. The list below are the only items of jewellery allowed.
- A small, plain single stud in each ear (to be removed for PE).
- A plain, simple ring (to be removed for PE and Design & Technology).
- A watch (to be removed for examinations).
All other body or facial piercings are not permitted: individuals will be told to remove them.
Extreme Weather Uniform
During extreme weather, the school leadership team may permit a modification to the formal school uniform policy; all amendments will be communicated during form time by form tutors. Other than in extreme circumstances, students are expected to always wear the full school uniform.
Physical Education Kit
All PE clothing can be purchased from SportsCrest in High Wycombe.
Compulsory
- red/black GMS polo shirt
- black shorts or black skort (no Nike pro or short shorts)
- red football socks/white socks
- trainers (not plimsolls, pumps or vans/converse)
- shin pads
- rugby shirt
- hair band to tie back hair (if required)
Optional but Recommended
- tracksuit top/rain jacket
- plain black tracksuit bottoms
- red or black plain long sleeved base layer
- football/rugby boots
- gum shields for rugby and hockey
Personal Belongings
Students are responsible for their possessions
Mobile Phones
The school does not accept any responsibility for lost, stolen or damaged phones.
Phones must not be seen, used or heard during the school day. “Not Seen, Not Used, Not Heard”
Once students enter the school site, mobile phones must be switched off and stored in school bags. Phones must remain in bags for the entire school day. If a device is seen, used or heard, it will be confiscated.
If a student does not follow these expectations, consequences will apply on a graduated scale. Exceptions may be made for students with specific medical needs, where the use of a device is necessary.
Sixth Form students may use mobile phones only under the following conditions: in designated Sixth Form areas only and during break, lunch, or independent study periods.
All breaches of the rules will result in the phone being confiscated and safely stored at reception. On the first occasion, the student will have the opportunity to discuss the matter with a member of the senior leadership team and potentially retrieve it at the end of the day. On subsequent occasions, the phone may need to be collected by a parent/carer at a meeting at the end of the school day. A record is kept so the confiscation of mobile phones is monitored.
i-Pods, MP3 Players and other Electrical Items
- The school does not accept any responsibility for lost, stolen or damaged electrical devices. If used during the school day they will be confiscated and kept safely in reception.
