As the end of the academic year approaches, GMS is celebrating the great successes in the District Championships, Track and Field Cup and in the County Championships.
All those who took part have excelled in their chosen field of sport and managed their other curriculum studies too, which shows both resilience and responsibility.
In the District Championships, GMS athletes earned first, second and third placements.
In Track and Field, students competed in one track and one field event. Points were awarded for time, distance or height achieved. GMS’s junior girls earned 342 points meaning they secured 3rd place in Buckinghamshire, plus a place in the Midlands B final.
Our junior boys accrued 442 points, the highest GMS boys’ total achieved to date. It earned them second place in Buckinghamshire, and a qualification for the Regional A-Team Final: a first for GMS.
County Championships
On 14th June, a whole number of talented students competed and proved themselves equal or better than their rivals.
Isabella Rawlings 5th in the javelin competition and achieved a personal best of 5.34 in the 1500m.
Holly Knott won Silver in the 800m, Silver in the high jump and Bronze in the 75m hurdles. She has also achieved a personal best 1.44m in the high jump: a new school record
Conlan O’Connor, in the hurdles, finished 2nd behind the Championship Record Holder with a time of 16.0.
Jack Frazer-Hogg ran a 24.1s race to finish in 3rd place in the 200m.
Jack Hughes ran 12.0 in the 100m and 24.8 in the 200m.
Leo Bray won the 1500m steeplechase in a time of 4.44.5 and qualifies for the ESAA Track and Field Championships
Jack Morgan became County Champion with a personal best throw of 48.36m. This distance also broke the school record and met the ESAA qualifying standard, so Jack will also be representing GMS at the English Schools in July.
Duncan Williams achieved 11.6s in the 100m and 23.8s in the 200m, both are Championship Records. This would qualify him for ESAA, but he is not allowed to compete out of his age group. Duncan’s personal best long jump distance of 6.17, was not counted as competitors were only allowed to compete in two events.
Alexander Eldridge has already qualified for the English Schools Championship in the 400m hurdles.
Needless-to-say, the whole of GMS is delighted with these results and admire the students who have worked incredibly hard. We thank the staff who have coached and supported them throughout the academic year.
