Mr Goodright and his PE Department team are delighted on a first-class day at the English Schools’ Track and Field Event, which took place last Thursday at Hillingdon.
Four teams went. The Year 8 boys team and 10 boys teams finished 3rd in county overall, based on their overall points score. Points are awarded for their time or distance, which is independent of the position they finish in the event. Congratulations to all of them.
The Year 8 girls finished 5th and 6th in the county. Congratulations to them.
Overall, the results show that GMS is the highest placed co-ed upper school in the county: a great commendation, indeed.
GMS are hopeful our teams will progress to the regional round of the event, it is dependent upon the results from the other counties.
Of significant note, is the superstar in Year 7. He ‘wowed’ at the event because he eclipsed his long jump record reaching 6.09m and also his 100m getting 11.63.
This is the blurb from the national data base:
‘Long jump record holder. The only U13 athlete from the UK to jump 6 metres or over in the long jump. 150 metres national record holder. 75 metres national record holder. 4th all time in the 60 metres for U13. And, chasing for all other sprint records!’
A truly brilliant summary of a young student showing promise. Huge congratulations to him.
