On Saturday November 1st, Great Marlow School Boat Club (GMSBC) competed in their first public competition of the academic year.
Conditions were wet and windy and particularly challenging in the morning division. The competition was a combination of top local clubs, plus numerous independent schools: overall there were 450 crews racing.
While GMSBC had no outright wins all crews performed admirably; the Year 9 crews coped very well in challenging conditions with the top boys’ crew coming second in their event. Both the girls and boys in the J15 4x+ (Year 10) performed so well that they came in fourth and fifth respectively: Ethan Taylor came in 4th in his single.
The Year 11 boys all rowed as singles or doubles, achieving some strong results; the most notable was Valere Ivers Dreux, Archie Gentry and Euan Speare who came third, fourth and fifth in their singles event, with their finishing times very close together.
Probably the top performance was the J16 Girls’ Coxless Quad, who came a very close second behind Henley’s top quad.
A good day’s racing with encouraging results
