Librarian Award: ‘Reading Culture’

Published 24 September, 2025

Mrs Ben Haj Ali and Mrs Fisher, our GMS Librarians, were delighted to receive a ‘Reading Culture’ award this week from Beanstack for student participation, with over 90% of our Year 7 and 8 students engaging with Beanstack last year.

It is marvellous to see the Year 8s already back into reading every week and striving to secure a place on the Leaderboard to receive a Headteacher’s award and achievement points.

Between 19th September – 2nd October, all of our Year 7s receive their log-in details and training on how to log their books and reading on the app. This is achieved during their fortnightly library lessons and also every time they read at home.

We had a very successful first year of using the Beanstack Reading Tracker App with many students receiving library prizes for their book reviews. Our Summer Reading Challenge and book tokens for the Genre Challenge was equally very popular and successful.

All parents and carers are encouraged to take a look at the app and support their child’s reading at home. For those students, not bringing a phone into school, the app is also accessible through the website, on a laptop, PC or iPad. Students do have a sticker in their planner explaining how to access this.

GMS Library staff are continually working towards fostering a student love for Reading, our 7th R.

This term, the librarians are looking forward to stocking the library with many new books this term.

For all keen readers please note we have started up our popular Key Stage 3 ‘Book Club’ every Wednesday, break 2 in classroom S4 run by Mrs BHA and Miss Winter.

Happy reading!
