Literary Festival

Published 10 March, 2026

GMS held its annual Literary Festival last week with many different events, activities and book themed lessons happening around the school, every day of the week.

The English team organised some fantastic revision sessions for KS4. Also, World Book Day events for KS3 Book Club and our Year 7 cohort.

Geography and science gave out prizes for their exciting Spelling Bee and fact-file competitions.

A ‘Read the News’ event with Mr Philpott in Citizenship was successful and shows that current affairs do grip students.

The new Sixth Form Reading Ambassador ‘Book Bud’ sessions started in the library for KS3 students.

In DT and art, creative students enjoyed designing bookmarks and book covers.

Many thanks to all departments and staff who ensured this week became the great success it was by supporting these great events and activities.

The Year 7s were fabulously dressed in their book-character dressing-up costumes, on World Book Day. Of course, a few staff joined in the fun.

GMS thanks Mrs Ben Haj Ali, School Reading Lead and all the staff who prepared and executed the super activities for students to become involved in.
