The impressive U14 Netball Team have succeeded in securing a prized place in Round 4 of the Sisters in Sport Vase Competition: they are one of only 32 teams to qualify.
On Friday 16 January, the team faced Bedford School in Round 3, in what was also the first netball match played on the new GMS sports hall floor.
The team has trained exceptionally hard, refining both attacking and defensive principles, with the support of Lisa from Elite Netball. Their commitment was rightly rewarded during this match.
A confident beginning saw Ria Joseph accurately passing to shooter Holly Peach, which built up an early momentum. This strong attacking connection helped the team take a 9 – 4 lead at the end of the first quarter. Bedford made tactical changes in the second quarter, challenging GMS to adapt quickly, which they did with great success. Defenders Ella Leslie, Rosie Smith and Amy Appletree worked effectively as a cohesive unit, applying pressure and creating turnovers, which masterfully counteracted Bedford’s strong defence that made conversion challenging at times.
The third quarter was a standout for GMS. Isabella Rawlings worked tirelessly at centre, linking attack and defence with great energy, while Evie Robertson used intelligent preliminary movements at wing attack to create space and attacking opportunities. GMS dominated this quarter 11- 4, setting up the potential for a strong finish.
Maintaining their focus and intensity in the final quarter, the team went on to secure an impressive 37–14 victory. Their fabulous performance reflected the squad’s teamwork, resilience and continued development.
The U14s will face either Pipers Corner School or Christ’s School in the next round before half term.
Congratulations to every team member on another excellent performance. GMS wish the team every success in Round 4.
