So successful was the library-organised visit from Chris Bradford that they would vote to change our name to The Marlow School for Samurai.
Year 7 and Year 8 were enthralled by the presentation by Chris Bradford on the 25th November that included a Samurai sword display, an enactment from one of his books, ‘ The Way of the Warrier’.
The flat words on the page came alive with every thrust and parry. Every member of the captivated audience wanted to volunteer. Despite having complete faith in our black belt samurai warrior, Mrs Fisher suffered moments of hesitation when Chris Bradford split an A4 page in two held by two of our very game students.
Below is a selection of the many enthusiastic comments by students.
“ I LOVED the show. I thought it was super fascinating and the way he described the book persuaded me to read it, very cool plot at well. “ Aislin
“ I really liked it when Chris Bradford came dressed as a real samurai with a real samurai sword! It was really great fun when he sprayed us all with a water pistol. For me, it has made me want to read some of his books. Lily Mae
“I really enjoyed the talk as I am half Japanese and you do not find many people who can pronounce our language very well. But I was very impressed; his facts and and pronunciation was all correct. I admired how he brought his wonderful ancient samurai sword. I have seen quite a few but this was the only experience where I actually saw someone use it.
“After his fascinating funny talk, I was inspired by his Samurai series and would love to start reading it.” Mio Musella
“I think the show was really good as it was interactive. I liked it because he used videos in his presentations. In addition, it was also good because he used humour and personal stories.” Fredde
So many of the comments from the students said they were inspired to read and GMS hopes that this visit translates into more books flying off the shelves. If you go to www.burningcandle.co.uk there is £5 off offer for three books, which will be signed and sent to the school. The offer is available for one week.
We thank the librarians for organising the event and Chris Bradford for enthralling the students with his charisma.
