FoGMS Needs You

As we enter the final term of this academic year we are appealing to parents and carers to consider how they can help keep our PTA strong.  Friends of Great Marlow School play a vital role in helping secure much needed funds for the school.  There are several long standing members of the committee who will be retiring at the end of this term.  Some of these members have not had students at the school for some years now, but have continued to support our fund raising efforts, for which we thank them very much.  However, without recruiting new members to the team, Friends of Great Marlow will no longer be able to continue its valuable work.

So what does it involve?  The committee meets approximately once every six weeks in the teaching rooms of the Redgrave Sports Centre.  The meetings usually begin at 7pm and are approximately an hour long.  At the beginning of the academic year we agree on the events we would like to run; at each meeting we discuss the logistics of each event in more detail.  We rely on the support of parents and carers who are on a list of helpers to join our ranks for each particular event, in order to ensure they run smoothly.

The committee meetings are generally attended by at least one member of the school’s leadership team, their work with FoGMS is invaluable, because they have an understanding of the complexities of the logistics. Importantly, they help us prioritise how the funds are best used to benefit the most students.

Previously, FoGMS have funded a complete refit of the technical equipment in the school hall; new sports kits for various teams; new outdoor seating areas for students; new music equipment; and money to renovate the environmental area.  As you can see all the money raised goes to enhance the educational experience of all students.

We are in desperate need of your support moving forward; the committee cannot exist without some key roles being filled.
