Great Marlow School will be closed to most students on Wednesday 24th June and Thursday 25th June, due to the Red Weather Warning forecast. Our priority, like a number of other schools, is the safety and wellbeing of our students and staff.
Year 12 Examinations
Year 12 examinations will go ahead as stated in the published examination timetable. GMS is satisfied the examination space is cool and not to disadvantage the candidates.
Vulnerable Students
Should you believe that a child may feel vulnerable due to the change in school arrangements,
please contact safeguarding@gms.bucks.sch.uk so that we can discuss how best to support their welfare and safety.
Staff will use Microsoft Teams to set learning for students. This work can be completed at a time that best suits students across the day on Wednesday and Thursday; it will be set no later than the start of each timetabled lesson.
We strongly advise that students remain indoors as much as possible over the next few days in order to reduce the risk of harm from extreme heat and sun exposure. Should there be any changes to the weather warning, we will communicate these to you as soon as possible via email.
At present, Great Marlow School is planning to return to normal operations on Friday 26th June. A further update will be shared during the afternoon on Thursday 25th June.
Water Safety and Awareness:
Students in Years 7–10 were reminded during registration on Friday 19th June about the importance of staying safe around water. Valuable guidance can be found from the Canal and River Trust.
Year 8 Parent/ Carer Evening:
As this is a virtual event, it will go ahead as planned on Thursday 25th June.
Year 10 Examinations:
All examinations scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday will be rearranged, with revised timings communicated directly to students.
Year 11 Taster Sessions
These sessions will not take place on Wednesday and Thursday. Should it be possible to reschedule them before the end of term, contact will be made.
GMS appreciates that this closure may cause some inconvenience and thank you for your understanding and support in helping us prioritise the wellbeing of our school community.
