Year 11 Business Students Visit Silverstone Museum
The Business Department organised an amazing visit to Silverstone Museum over two days for the entire Year 11 Business cohort. The trip provided students with a fantastic opportunity to see many of the business concepts they study in the classroom brought to life in a real-world setting.
During the visit, on 13th and 14th October, students learnt about the different revenue streams generated by Silverstone and how its staffing requirements change throughout the year to support major events.

They also explored how Silverstone had to diversify its offering during the COVID-19 pandemic and they gained an insight into the importance of sponsorship within Formula 1, including the significant sums companies are prepared to pay to have their brands displayed on drivers’ cars, race suits and helmets.
Importantly, students were introduced to the rich history of Silverstone, learning how the site began as an RAF airfield during the Second World War before developing into the world-famous racing circuit it is today, attracting thousands of spectators to major events such as the British Grand Prix.

A particular highlight was the museum itself, where students were able to see iconic racing cars up close, sit inside some of the vehicles and experience the interactive racing simulators. The visit concluded with an immersive cinema experience, giving students the excitement of a first-person perspective from inside an F1 car.
Overall, the trip was a great success. The students thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and it provided an engaging and memorable way for them to connect their GCSE Business Studies learning with a world-famous sporting venue and successful business.
Much credit and thanks to A Flannery , the photographer and our GMS staff who organised and facilitated the event.
