Great Marlow Win Golds

The first national competitions of the junior rowing calendar took place last week with the School’s Head of the River Race( SHORR) at Putney on Thursday, followed by the Scullery at Dorney Lake on Friday. Great Marlow School Boat Club (GMSBC) furthered its haul of National Titles by winning first the J15 boys event at SHORR and then the girls J17 event at Dorney.

Without a doubt, GMSBC results for the two days were very exciting. The J17 Boys Four came second at SHORR behind a club crew stacked with junior internationals. /The J15 girls came third in their event, while the mixed quad came fourth in this brand new event.

These successes follow the big weekend just before when the club won three events, two second places and a third place. These results are particularly spectacular after an appalling winter where the club has not been able to practise on the water at their home base of Longridge since October. While other local rivals managed to continue to row from their boathouses, even in fast stream condition. GMSBC have had to practise in the gym as flooding at their boating area has made the river inaccessible.
