Year 7 Boys Athletics – A great start!

From only teaching the students and having not seen them in direct athletic competitions GMS staff were required to select two teams of 6 athletes to compete in the South Bucks Indoor Athletics Championships. This was not difficult because GMS Year 7 students are very enthusiastic and willing to particpate. 

The students selected were confident once they understood that the events were the same as those in traditional athletics, slightly modified for indoor use. 

Each member of the team had to compete in one field event, one individual track event and a relay. An excellent start in the track events including the relay meant that the boys teams were placed 1^st and 3^rd at the start of the the field events.  The students chose their field events based upon their knowledge of their strenghts. A risk admittedly, but they chose well as both teams maintained their respective positions. Our winning team have now progressed to the next round, The Bucks Youth Games which is hosted by Mandeville Stadium. Here, the students will compete against students in other districts as they now represent the Wycombe District as Great Marlow School. Another superb result for this highly talented year group.
