PE Department relocated to the Redgrave Sports Centre

The PE Department are have now relocated to the Redgrave Sports Centre.  The new facility that was officially opened on Thursday 8th May has been toured by all the students in their PE lesson in the last week to explain the new rules and expectations that comes with such a facility.

The students were enthralled and excited to see what is now on offer.  The Sports Hall being four times the size of the Gym amazed the students – as did the warmth of it (especially compared to the old Gym).  The mirrors and lights in the Dance Studio attracted a lot of excitement and attention for a number of reasons – both educational and vanity.  Then the students saw the Fitness Suite – and the normally dreaded word of Fitness seems to now have a new connotation and students cant wait to get in!  This was unheard of in the old Gym but now the CV kit and Resistance Weights have been seen and experimented we look forward to the fittest generation of students in GMS history.

Equally the trim trail was used for a quick warm up session for students and that alone seemed to tire them out.  The monkey bars and stepping stones, climbing polls and balance beams tested the students fitness and created some friendly competition too.

Other somewhat smaller features and perhaps not as obvious attractions gained created equally as much excitement – the classrooms, the toilets, the changing rooms and most weirdly, the lockers!  We never knew lockers were so inspiring!

After half term we will be starting a whole new range of extra curricular opportunities including Tennis, Badminton and Basketball which although previously attempted, could never have been as successful due to the limited facilities we had.  Now we can really excel in an even wider range of sporting activities.  The sporting future is very bright at GMS!
