On Friday 10th January 2014 some lucky pupils of Great Marlow School are spending time with 2012 Olympic hockey bronze medallist Alex Danson. She comes as part of the Sky Sports for Living Project.
This is the second year GMS have had a successful athlete visit the school to inspire pupils to involve themselves in sport. The initiative aims to use sport stars to boost the confidence of pupils by encouraging them to embrace opportunities to improve life skills.
Alex will spend quality time speaking to the pupils: passing on stories of her life and career to inspire and motivate the pupils of GMs to set goals for themselves that are ambitious yet realistic.
The day will involve students participating in a series of workshops: the first focuses on how to overcome barriers; the second is practical based and aims to show all the students how to show their potential in a variety of situations; thirdly, Alex will run a “Talented Athlete” workshop, where nutrition and goal setting will be discussed.
The day will end with Alex leading a Hockey Masterclass Coaching Session where she will see for herself how talented the Great Marlow hockey players really are.
