GMS 2024 Rowing Challenge

Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd May was GMS’s 2024 Rowing Challenge.

Building on the success of last year’s Sporting Challenge we are taking the event forward in 2024. This year’s Sporting Challenge had a rowing focus and incorporated the Inter-Form and Inter-House Indoor Rowing Competition for Years 7-10.

The proceeds of the 2024 challenge are to support the development of the Marlow & District Schools’ Boathouse. The ground works are well underway but we need a fundraising push to take us over the £500k mark, which will enable the establishment of the schools’ base for rowing at the new site.

On Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd May, our students did compete in the inter-house Rowing Competition. The team, the form and the House in each year group that rowed the furthest during the allotted time, will receive certificates and House Points for their endeavours; this is still being worked out. The form in each year group that raises the most sponsorship money will visit the Everyman Cinema in Marlow to watch the George Clooney produced movie ‘The Boys in the Boat’, the best rowing film ever made which also ‘stars’ Great Marlow School students.

In addition, a separate challenge ran from 4 pm on Thursday until 2nd May, finishing at 12.24 pm on Friday 3rd May. Staff and members of the public were invited to participate collectively in continuous physical activity for 20 hours and 24 minutes.

The money this Sporting Challenge raises will further enhance the provision of facilities, equipment, and programmes of activity that we already run for our students, for the wider community through the Redgrave Sports Centre and the associated outdoor sporting facilities.

More exciting updates about the GMS 2024 Rowing Challenge will be published as they emerge.
