Year 8 VeloBuild Project

A group of our Year 8 students were chosen to take part in a project call “VeloBuild” from All Things Active. The VeloBuild Project is a completely practical, ‘hands on’ course that has proven very helpful for those students who have experienced all types of difficulties in school life. Student feedback suggests it has given participants a very real sense of achievement and pride in the ultimate ‘finished article’ together with the associated skills that are developed in the process.

Benefits for Students:

• Gives students vocational and transferrable knowledge and skills.

• Promotes ‘Active Learning’ and encourages physical activity.
• The student gets to build – and keep his/her own bicycle. A major incentive!

For our  School:

• Promotes the 3 A’s – ‘Attendance, Attainment & Achievement’
• Increased concentration levels
• Encourages teamwork.

The photographs show how the bikes grew each day for 4 days.  We kept the groups small (3 groups of 4 students) and had a great time watching the progress, enthusiasm and excitement of the students increase as the week drew to a close and the bikes were finished.
