Cell Building: House Competition Year 7

Published 4 December, 2024

GMS’s Year 7s are challenged to enter a competition being launched on Monday 2nd December by the Science Department and House Leads.

The challenge is to build a cell model.

Cells are the building blocks for all life, both human and plant. Every living thing is made up of cells and they all have different functions to perform. Year 7 students are tasked with building a cell model and submit it on, or before, Monday 16th December.  Knowledge, understanding and imagination are required. Students can use all manner of objects to build their cell: clay, pasta, beads, cardboard, sponges or felt. Clear labelling is essential.

This is a completely new competition and the staff involved are very excited about the outcome, for individuals and their Houses.

1st place: 15 Achievement Points
2nd place: 10 Achievement Points
3rd place: 5 Achievement Points

Science teachers are waiting for their labs to be full of creations. There is a sense that judging will be a challenging task.

GMS hopes parents and carers will join in the conversation and fun as their child creates their cell.
