With high temperatures forecast for this week, GMS wants to remind parents, carers and students about the importance of sun safety measures. It is vital that all of us take care and especially vital that our students are sun-safe and comfortable at school.
In high temperatures:
- A water bottle – is central in the battle to keep hydrated throughout the day. There are water stations on site from which water bottles can be filled.
- A sun hat or cap – is important to protect heads and faces during outdoor activities and breaks.
- Hay fever – all prescribed medication should be taken in the morning before the school day starts.
- Sun cream – should be applied before school, with additional cream in a student’s bag in case reapplication is needed. (Particularly for those students who walk/ cycle home.)
These measures are especially important for students who have PE lessons timetabled this week, as they will be spending some lesson time outdoors.
During the course of the school day students are advised not to spend excessive periods of time in the heat of the sun during breaks. We have a number of spaces available inside where students can sit at breaktime and there are also covered spaces outside.
A reminder also that students in Years 7-10 may wear their PE kit to school this week and students in Year 12 can wear clothing more appropriate to the weather conditions. However, all clothing must be appropriate to wear at school.
Thank you for your support in keeping our students safe in the sun.
