Great Marlow School will be closed to most students on Friday 26th June, due to the Red Weather Warning forecast. Our priority, like a number of other schools, is the safety and wellbeing of our students and staff.
Year 12 Examinations
Year 12 examinations will go ahead as stated in the published examination timetable. GMS is satisfied the examination space is cool and will not disadvantage the candidates.
Vulnerable Students
Should you believe that a child may feel vulnerable due to the change in school arrangements, please contact safeguarding@gms.bucks.sch.uk so that appropriate support can be arranged.
Remote Learning
Staff will set work on Microsoft Teams. This work can be completed at a time that best suits students across the day; it will be set no later than the start of each timetabled lesson.
Health and Safety
GMS strongly advises that students remain indoors as much as possible over the next few days in order to reduce the risk of harm from extreme heat and sun exposure. The situation will be monitored closely and the school will provide further updates as needed.
At present, we are planning for a return to normal school operations on Monday 29th June, with a further update to follow on Friday afternoon.
Water Safety and Awareness:
During periods of extreme heat, local water sites can be particularly appealing to young people. GMS would like to remind families of the importance of water safety at this time.
Students in Years 7–10 have received water safety guidance. GMS would appreciate parent and carer support in reinforcing this message at home. Supporting materials, including guidance and a video from the Canal & River Trust, can be viewed here
Year 10 Examinations:
Statistics and Business mock examinations will be rescheduled. Revised timings will be communicated directly to students.
Year 11 Prom and Taster Sessions
The Year 11 Prom will go ahead as planned. The external venue has air-conditioning in place. However, we recognise that attendance is a personal decision for families. Please note that, as the event is going ahead as planned, we are unfortunately unable to offer refunds for students who choose not to attend.
The planned drama taster session will not take place. If it can be rescheduled before the end of term, we will share further details.
GMS appreciates your understanding as we prioritise the safety of our school community during this exceptional weather event.
