On July 7th 2026, Great Marlow School welcomes the new cohort of students.
Much detailed planning has taken place by the transition team, led by Mr Taylor, to make this day special and memorable for our Year 6s and help them transition comfortably to their life in our school.
The aim of the transition days is to prepare children for their new year at school and to reduce any anxiety or nervousness they may have. Previous years have proved that children feel less nervous when they know who their form teacher is, where their form room is situated and have an idea of where the main facilities in the school are located.
The change from being the oldest in school to being the youngest can be unsettling for some, with a certain trepidation about being in an environment with older students, this feeling soon passes.
Fortunately, the feeling of being somewhere new passes quickly. Experience tells us that new Year 7s settle in quickly and very well. The Director of Learning, tutors, staff, support officers, prefects and others are instrumental in ensuring this happens as smoothly as possible. The transition day is an important part of the settling in process.
GMS wishes the Year 6s a great day in the school. We thank all the staff involved for their dedicated work in preparing for the day.
