Computer Science investigates how computers work, how they’re used and how they are programmed. It is a fascinating problem-solving subject.

Department Vision:
To equip students with the confidence to effectively and safely navigate computer technology: readying them for the modern world.
Department Aim:
To build resilience, skills and knowledge required for problem solving and programming.

Our Computer Science course in KS3 and KS4 provides students with a supportive, enthusiastic environment in which they can explore concepts, share ideas, develop skills and interests, and build practical solutions to problems. These are skills highly sought after by employers.

Students are taught how digital systems work, and how to put this knowledge to use through programming. Their ideas will develop through skilled teaching techniques, exploration and applying a puzzle-solving attitude.

Across the key stages we aim to:

•          Develop understanding of the digital world and computer programming

•          Deliver a broad, balanced and aspirational curriculum.

•          Remove potential barriers to learning.

•          Deliver high quality and engaging lessons.

•          Encourage communication and independent research skills.

•          Support our students to be well informed users of technology, while demonstrating compassion and integrity.

Computer Science has links with all subjects; as it becomes increasingly important it is imperative that we invest in our young people’s interest and talent so they can take their place as active participants in our digital world. The Microsoft 365 package of applications is introduced and used to create and store files including documents, spreadsheets and presentations.

The Computing Team includes Mr James (Head of Department) and Mr Pusey. We deliver the computing curriculum to KS3 and Computer Science GCSE to those who opt to study with us at KS4. There are two computing rooms each with a full set of desktop computers, complete with a suite of Microsoft applications.
