English Schools Track and Field Cup

Published 17 May, 2026

The Year 8 Boys’ Athletics team competed in the challenging English Schools Track and Field Cup.

Every member of the team had to compete in a track and field event, preventing anyone becoming ‘a one trick pony’. Points are awarded for times and distances, not positions.

Our super GMS boys’ team scored a massive 388, which is the second highest score in the county, they were narrowly beaten by JHGS. If we’d attended the North Bucks Final, we would have won. This result does mean they qualify for the next round of the competition, which is a regional final, held in Coventry.

Duncan W is very talented but his contribution was just one part of a team event and there were some outstanding performances from a number of students.

  • Duncan jumped 6m 66cms in the long jump – this is the longest recorded jump in the country for his age group this year and possibly of all time.
  • Teddy B won the triple jump and 300m
  • Fareed won javelin and was second in the 200m
  • Oscar E was second in the 300m
  • Will C second in 1500m (Year 7)
  • All team members earned many 4/5th positions to gain good points

This is a huge success for GMS and we congratulate all the team. A great thank you to the PE staff, too, without them this would not be possible.
