GMS announces that from Monday 29th June, Great Marlow School will return to its normal
timetable and operating procedures following the recent period of hot weather adjustments.
With high temperatures continuing into next week, we would like to remind you of some key sun safety measures to help keep your child safe and comfortable during the school day.
Please ensure your child brings the following items to school each day:
- A water bottle – this is central in the battle to remain hydrated throughout the day. There are water stations on site from which water bottles can be filled.
- A sun hat or cap – is very important to protect heads and faces during outdoor activities and breaks.
- Hay fever – sufferers should take their prescribed medication in the morning before the school day starts.
- Sun cream – is essential and should be applied before school, with additional cream in a student’s bag in case reapplication is needed. (Particularly for those students who walk/ cycle home).
The items listed above are especially important for students who have scheduled PE lessons scheduled, as parts of these lessons may take place outdoors.
During the school day, we encourage students to avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight at
break times. There are indoor spaces available, as well as shaded outdoor areas.
Students in Years 7–10 may wear their PE kit to school, and this arrangement is likely to remain in place for the rest of the academic year.
Students in Year 12 may, when they return from work experience on Monday 6th July, should wear clothing suited to the hot weather, provided it remains appropriate for the school environment.
The warm weather is expected to continue over the weekend. We would like to remind all parents/carers and students that local waterways can be extremely dangerous. Students should not swim in rivers, canals, reservoirs or other open water without supervision. We have discussed water safety with students in school, and we would ask, that you as parents and carers reinforce this important message at home.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding and we look forward to welcoming the students back to school on Monday 29th June.
