On Saturday, GMSBC took all Year 10 rowers to Bath to compete in the Bluefriars Head. After such heavy rain over the last few weeks, it was delightful to be out on the water in pleasant autumn sunshine.
An early start for the top Girls’ Quad, who had to be in Bath for 7:45 am. They were rewarded with a great row and commanding win. Not only winning their event but also winning the fastest Women’s Coxed Quad for the whole event.
The early division saw the boys racing in two Doubles races, but sadly an early promise from Robin Wynn-Davis and Ollie Ellwood was dashed after some steering difficulties.
In the second division the boys raced in two matched crews in the J16 ( Year 11) Coxed Quads. The Quad stroked by Tommy Pitwell won the event with the others just behind in second place.
Meanwhile the girls had two Doubles races in the long division. Our second Quad raced in the short division. The two Girls’ Doubles put in great races coming in 2nd and 3rd in their event only 0.5 seconds apart.
In the short division our Girls’ Quad, who looked very tidy and well drilled won their event some 6 seconds ahead of second place.
On a side note Anna Bradley, racing for Bath University, won her Double Sculls event, which was very pleasing to see.
A very successful day on the river and all of the rowers performed excellently.
