One of GMS’s Year 10s, Josh Urie, has won Bronze at the Welsh Open Judo Competition.
His proud family sent this report documenting his success.
“This was his first national level event in the U18 age group so he went in with no seeding. The -66kg is a notoriously hard category and with 24 players in the group, it was also the largest of the day. His coach had no expectations and his brief was to get as much mat time as possible.
His first fight was against the top seed and he fought hard to eventually win with ippon. He went on, only loosing one fight in his pool, which put him straight into the Bronze medal fight. He the won the Bronze with a brilliant throw in six seconds! Needless to say, we are very proud of him!”
GMS is very proud of his achievement, too, which we know is the result of many hours of dedicated time, necessitated by the skill set required to master the craft of this unique of sports.
