Examination Boards: EDUQAS GCSE-C690QS/A-level-A690QS
Our department’s focuses is on the core skills needed for directing, acting and evaluating drama. Students are introduced to a wide range of practitioners, challenging their views and expectations of what drama and theatre should look like. Students are given the opportunity to work with visiting theatre companies, giving them a glimpse into the world of work in the competitiveness drama industry. Students work with a variety of stimulus, which encourages them to think more creatively when creating scripted and devised performances. During their time at Great Marlow School students will develop an understanding of the history of drama, performance techniques, and performance appreciation.
Within this, we foster:
- Confidence and self-esteem to take risks and challenge their own creativity through drama.
- The ability to self reflect on their work and how they can use constructive feedback to improve future creative work.
- The skills to evaluate and analyse their work and the work of others.
- A sense of curiosity and appreciation for working individually and as part of a team.
- Enjoyment and achievement through exploring and playing roles, and imagining situations, actions and ideas as drama makers and audience.
There are two fully equipped drama rooms, offering students the opportunity to use a lighting and sound desk and projection. The department has a large costume and props cupboard, which is available for students to use during lessons.
Extra curricular activities are available to students throughout the year as the department offers students the opportunity to participate in a whole school Christmas production and a Key Stage 3 production.
