Religion philosophy and ethics challenges students to engage and explore some of the world’s main religions from theological, psychological and sociological perspective. Our broad, balanced and enriching curriculum enthuses students because it analyses and evaluates the impact, truth and value of religion and other worldviews through constructing and evaluating arguments and perspectives. GMS has adopted the pedagogy and curriculum of the Buckinghamshire Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education (2022-27).

Students are encouraged to reflect more deeply on their own and others’ sense of identity, meaning and purpose in life from their study of religion and belief. Substantive knowledge and personal experience both help to develop their awareness of human values and mutual understanding; this equips them with the tools to take their place as citizens.

In engaging with these issues their appreciation of British values, such as tolerance and freedom of speech will be developed, as well as wider cultural capital through engagement with aforementioned issues that enables students to explore their own beliefs and those of others.

Students become more confident, reflective and knowledgeable as they discuss issues. Their informed judgements arise from:

  • the development of ideas through investigating
  • exploring and researching
  • recording ideas accurately
  • reflection on own ideas and that of others
