Destinations, visitor attractions, how major travel companies work and how holidays are packaged to suit different groups of people are all topics explored, investigated and analysed.

Our department’s focus is centred around strengthening the depth and knowledge of worldwide tourism. Students will become confidence in applying, analysing and evaluating key trends, statistics and marketing is achieved due to the course being about an industry of global importance. Students develop a knowledge and understanding of boundaries beyond the UK and how people travel to visit new and already experienced destinations.

Students will:

  • Identify customer trends that are dependent on needs, global destinations and the consequences of motivating and enabling factors, which make people desire to travel.
  • Evaluate using internal/ external affects of the appeal of a destination.
  • Understand the complexity of visitor expectations and compare how different attractions cater for these expectations and needs.
  • Collection of primary and secondary research and assess the potential advantages and disadvantages of travel options, routes and providers.
  •  Explain how companies obtain, interpret and act on customer feedback, including social media, trade articles, questionaries.
  • Evaluate the marketing mix and how e­ffectively companies use product, price, place and promotion to grow and expand.
  • Evaluate the use and importance of technology for visitor attractions. Technology has enhanced operational efficiency and improved services and customer experience. There are benefits arising from improved communication.
  • Compare the scale and scope of natural attractions and how these form a focal point for visitors.

Students will develop these skills through the completion of different lesson task, independent tasks and research studies. Students will work through each half term to achieve these aims and develop their skills.
