WIN at Hockey County Tournament

Published 9 October, 2026

GMS is delighted to broadcast the fantastic news, from Miss Porter, of the success of the U14 Girls’ Hockey Team.

Miss Porter wants to, “celebrate the work of a [unique] group of students from Years 7, 8 and 9.”

The U14 hockey girls became a team just over a year ago. Many of them had not played hockey regularly before attending GMS. Yet, what they lacked in hockey experience, they made up for in spirit and resilience. Their focus has been firmly set on performance, not results, meaning they were keen to improve as opposed to just winning. This level of resilience is hugely commendable; it managed their expectations and meant their losses in Year 7 never curtailed their spirit.

On Thursday 8th October, the hockey team participated in the County Tournament, held at Stowe Independent School.

They were masters of their craft, ending the day undefeated, conceding no goals and scoring 11, thus winning the tournament outright.

Next, they represent GMS in the U14 Regional Competition.

Miss Porter writes, “This result is a direct reflection of their dedication, resilience and readiness to work. They are a very special group of students. It should be noted that the core of the team came from Year 8, who are playing a year up. That’s not to mention the addition of two Year 7 students, who are playing two years up. It would be remiss of me not to mention Emily W’s work with the Year 8s too. She has dedicated countless hours to this group of young people and they have absolutely captured her spirit and positivity … They are, “ecstatic with their achievement”.

Congratulations to: Bella R, Anna H, Ava B, Summer P, Millie A, Charlotte H, Evie R, Willow W, Amy A,

Grace G, Izzy H, Eva S and Mia W

A huge thank you to Miss Porter and her team who have invested many extra hours to help the team achieve this remarkable success. Well done to everyone.
