The globalised world in which we live is dominated by businesses. Successful entrepreneurs don’t wait for opportunities, they create them. When a new product is patented, it may ‘fly’ into a going concern; equally it may stall before finding its way to success. There is no one model for becoming a front-runner in business, which is why Business Studies is such a fascinating subject to study.

The Business Studies courses have been chosen for their modern world relevance, including modules on the impact of businesses on the environment, business ethics, technology and modern workplace practices. Contemporary case studies are fascinating and bed the examination topics in the real world, both at KS4 and KS5.

The department strongly believes in ensuring that lessons are linked to real organisations because a business course should prepare students for careers in the business world. To facilitate this, we have built good relationships with local companies, who are supportive in sharing their expertise with our thriving Young Enterprise enrichment. At KS5 this is hugely successful and has been piloted at KS3.

In addition, through engaging with business contexts, students are encouraged to develop skills, knowledge and understanding in a realistic way to deliver peak examination performance.

There is a strong focus on practical real-world examples, structured contextual analytical and evaluative writing, developing strong Business numeracy skills and recall/retention to support stronger exam outcomes.  Lessons have a balance of support and challenge to build learner confidence, resilience and ultimately success.

We have 3 specialist teachers in our successful team with significant Teaching, Examining and Business experience, all committed to fully developing our hard-working learners.
